Color Darkroom Photography
I sometimes instruct students in darkroom photography at the International Center of Photography in New York City. In this class students learn to develop color photos in the darkroom. This complex and potentially frustrating process involves traditional darkroom techniques as well as extensive color correction. Students learn about the nature of light, optical processes, color theory and more. At the end of the class, students create final projects encompassing ten perfectly printed photos grouped around a theme, accompanied by an artist statement. This encourages them to focus not just on technique, but on developing their own unique artistic vision.
